Massage Permits
To protect the health, safety, and welfare of Claremont citizens, the activity of massage establishments and technicians operating within Claremont is regulated in accordance with Claremont Municipal Code sections 5.36.010 - 5.36.140.
The City of Claremont is also authorized, by virtue of the State Constitution and California Government Code Section 51031, to regulate massage establishments by imposing reasonable standards relative to the skill and experience of massage operators and technicians, and reasonable conditions on the operations of massage establishments.
Some of the standards that afford consumers the confidence that massage establishments and their operators who possess a valid Claremont "Massage Permit" are well-trained professionals are listed below:
- A diploma or certificate of graduation from a California-recognized school of massage that includes a minimum of 500 hours of coursework completed
- Proof of membership within a City-approved massage organization
- Liability insurance
- Successful completion of a written test
- A certificate of physical health from a medical doctor
- Live Scan fingerprints
- Annual permit renewal
Application Process
- Obtain a permit or renewal application online or at the Police Department
- Completed applications may not be submitted online
- Completed applications will only be accepted at the Claremont Police Department during normal business hours
- A Live Scan appointment may be made when submitting a completed application
- Renewals must be submitted a minimum of 90 days prior to the expiration of the current permit
