Emergency Information - High Winds
The National Weather Service issued a Widespread Windstorm warning for January 7 through January 8. Southern California Edison has also initiated a Public Safety Power Shut Off on the Moab and Palmer circuits affecting north Claremont adjacent to the foothills through January 9, 2025.
On January 8, 2025 City crews began cleanup of downed trees and branches. The City estimated 20 trees fell and hundreds of branches. The City received 55 calls for service and reports of damage. All City parks and trails are closed until they can be assessed, cleaned, and deemed safe for public use.
Public Safety Power Shutoffs
Southern California Edison has initiated Public Safety Power Shutoffs on two circuits in Claremont. These circuits serve properties adjacent to fire-prone wilderness areas and will not be reactivated until the current fire conditions ease. Additionally, there are several outages due to downed trees and power lines in Claremont. SCE crews are working to repair the lines and restore power. View the outage information and estimated outage times at sce.com/outages. The Alexander Hughes Community Center, 1700 Danbury Road, is open until 9pm to charge small devices.
No Trash Collection on Wednesday, January 8 - Trash Pick Up Delayed All Week
Due to the winds, there will be no trash collection on Wednesday, January 8. Trash collection will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week. Wednesday's trash will be collected on Thursday and Thursday's will be picked up on Friday. Holiday trees will be picked up on trash day.
All City Parks and Trails Closed
City crews and contractors are clearing downed trees and branches around Claremont including streets, sidewalks, trails, and parks. City parks and trails, including the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park, will be closed until further notice to allow for the clean-up of debris. For the safety of our residents and visitors, please stay away out of City parks and off trails until clean-up has been completed and the parks are safe to reopen.
Overnight Parking Not Enforced
The Claremont Police Department will not be ticketing for overnight parking on January 7 evening to January 9 morning. Cars may be parked on the street. Cars should not be parked under trees if possible.
Dumpsters For Debris In Parks
The City has placed large dumpsters at City parks for residents to dispose of windstorm debris. Please no bulky items. Below are the locations of dumpsters:

Report Damage
The City is preparing for possible wind-related damage and debris. Staff is on call for emergencies. To report wind damage like trees down on public property, please use the form below or call (909) 399-5431. For life threatening or dangerous situations, please call 9-1-1.
Reporting storm damage is not filing a claim for reimbursement from the City for damage to private property. If you have damage on private property from a public tree or other City-owned asset, please file a claim here.
