Clean Power Alliance

City Moves to 100% Clean Power

On January 25, 2022, the City Council voted to select Green Power as the default power rate selection from Clean Power Alliance. Clean Power Alliance purchases and provides power through the Southern California Edison distribution infrastructure. Since 2019, the City has been part of the Clean Power Alliance, which is a joint powers authority of more than 3 cities that purchases renewable power. Residents receive their power through the Edison power grid and receive their bills through Edison.

Green Power uses 100% clean and renewable energy from sources like the sun and wind will power homes and businesses in Claremont. This will reduce 64.7 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions annually, which is like planting 484,218 trees or taking 6,310 cars off the road. Using renewable energy helps reduce the impacts of climate change. Because clean energy costs a little bit more, a typical bill for residents and small businesses will go up by approximately 3%, or about $3 for every $100 of electricity charges.

Customers can always switch to one of Clean Power Alliance's other two rate options, Lean Power or Clean Power, or opt-out and select Southern California Edison as their electricity provider. The default change does not affect any customer who has already taken action to change their CPA service. So, if you have previously opted up, down or out, your rate plan will not change.

If you want to stay on your current rate plan, call CPA at 888-585-3788 or email customerservice@cleanpoweralliance.org. You can learn more about other rate options at cleanpoweralliance.org/compare

What is Clean Power Alliance?

Clean Power Alliance is a collection of municipalities that offers clean renewable energy to Claremont residents and businesses through a partnership with Southern California Edison.

Clean Power Alliance is the new default electricity provider for residents and businesses in Claremont. While Clean Power Alliance will be providing power, Southern California Edison will still deliver the power to homes and businesses.

Clean Power Alliance is comprised of 31 public agencies across Los Angeles and Ventura counties working together to bring clean energy choices to our communities. Residents and businesses in our community will be automatically enrolled into the Clean Power Alliance's competitively priced Clean Power rate option. Nothing else changes with renewable power—Southern California Edison will continue to deliver power, send just one bill, and be responsible for resolving any electricity service issues.

Clean Power Alliance offers three rate options designed to suit the diverse needs of the community, all of which provide high renewable content at a competitive price. Residents and businesses may choose which plan they prefer or opt out of the program completely. If you opt out in the first 60 days, you may return at any time within the first 12 months with no fee. Read more about rate options at www.cleanpoweralliance.org/rates.

You also can opt out without penalty and your electricity generation charges will remain with SCE.
