Elections
General Municipal Election Information
Claremont is a General Law City governed by a five-member City Council. City Councilmembers are elected by geographically defined districts, each for four-year terms. The elections coincide with the Statewide General Election, held in November of even-numbered years. City Councilmembers are non-partisan positions and do not have term limits. Terms are staggered, so that two seats are voted on during one election cycle and three seats during the next cycle.
District-Based Elections
In February 2019, the City transitioned from at-large elections to a district-based election system. The by-district system divides the City into geographic areas. Voters will select a Council candidate from their district every four years.

In early 2022, the City went through the process of redrawing district boundary lines as required by law following a Federal Census to ensure voting districts remain equitably population balanced. This created slightly adjusted district boundaries. Map 203, adopted March 22, 2022, is the current City District Map. Below is a link to the Interactive District Map where a voter can look up the City Council district in which they reside and an image of the map for general reference.

The Vote Center Placement Project's core mission is to identify and place accessible and convenient vote center locations throughout LA County.
