Apply for a Committee or Commission

The Claremont City Council encourages citizen participation in its decision-making process, most notably through its active use of citizen commissions, committees, and boards, as well as department committees.

Applicants interested in serving on a Commission, the Public Art Committee or Sustainability Committee will meet with a two-member ad hoc interview committee comprised generally of the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore. Appointments to Commissions and these Committees are made by the full City Council at an open public meeting, relying on recommendations from the ad hoc interview committee. Appointments to other City committees are made following similar procedures but are appointed by various Commissions rather than the City Council.

Qualifications for service include:

  • Claremont residency (with certain exceptions).
  • A strong interest in the community and the work of the commission.
  • The ability to give generously of one's time when serving.

Applications

Individuals interested in serving on a commission, committee or board are encouraged to file an application with the City Clerk. Applications are kept on file and considered whenever a vacancy occurs.

For more information or assistance, please contact the City Clerk's office.
